PLEASE SORT AND MARK YOUR TRASH
Please separate your glass, aluminum, metal, plastic, iron and batteries.
Iron goes to Nicaragua. Glass isn’t worth much and is a lot of work. It has
to be separated by color and transported to San Jose, where they pay ¢ 1
per kilogram. Metal and aluminum are worth ¢ 500 per kilogram in San Jose.
It takes 60 cans to make one kilogram. Plastics go to Liberia, but first
they must be crushed with the truck. 120 one-liter bottles weigh 1 kilogram,
which is worth ¢ 50. Batteries are worth ¢ 50 per kilogram in Nicoya and
¢ 200 in San Jose.

In the neighborhoods surrounding downtown Nosara, bill payments are
collected door-to-door on the last Sunday of every month. The cost for garbage
collection services in the downtown area is 1,000 colones, or about $2.20
per month.
Residents
in the outlying neighborhoods must pay their bill, due on the 10th of each
month, at the Super Nosara Grocery in downtown Nosara (see City Map).
